Had nice looks at a Red-shouldered Hawk today at the Roadrunner Club. We could not find the Inca Dove that was observed on Sunday.

Warming Up-December 11, 2013

Finally we are beginning to warm up. Lot's of birding activity today at The Springs and Roadrunner. We counted around 15 Cedar Wawwings at one of the ponds. Also had some Lark Sparrow's at feeders. Hopefully we will have similar weather for count day Dec. 15.-60's and sunny.

December 6, 2013 Some Interesting Birds

Some nice looks at Flickers, Phainopepla and other birds. The cold snap has moved lots of birds to feeders and water. Nights are in the 30's with some rain expected tomorrow. The Flickers were observed at the Roadrunner Mobile Park. The Heron was at La Casa De Zorro with the fish. The Phainopepla was at Tamarisk Grove. The Cormormant was at The Springs RV Park.

We had a nice morning with temperatures in the mid 55's. So our freeze like the rest of the nation is mild compared to the midwest. The strange hummer has been coming to a feeder at the RV park for sometime now. The cormorant continues to fish the RV park ponds. The Costa's hummer uses a bicycle for a perch.

Another Nice Day in Borrego Springs-November 20, 2013

Nice day with some fine clouds coming off the mountain peaks-Lenticular clouds. A few shots of dove today. While taking a photo of the White-winged Dove a Cooper's Hawk tried to snatch it. Missed the hawk however.

Hot Today With Some Nice Cormorant Shots-Wednesday Novermber 13, 2013

It became very hot today, around 90. We did see some nice birds this morning with good shots of the juvenile cormorant that has been hanging around. Birds today included: American Wigeon-I will have some shots next week, Mallard Duck, Double-crested Cormorant, American Kestrel, Greater Roadrunner, Anna's Hummingbird, Say's Phoebe, Black Phoebe, Common Raven, Verdin, Western Bluebird, Orange-crowned Warbler, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Lark Sparrow, White-crowned Sparrow, House Finch, Lesser Goldfinch. The Kestrel with snake was taken a few years ago. I will find the photo of the male with the same snake. He presented it to the female. Probably the same bird we saw today.

Nice Day But Numbers Down-November 6, 2013

Had a nice day today but not too many birds out there. Well, not a lot of species, loads of Bluebirds and Yellowrumps. Wigeons are back at the golf ponds and a Gray Flycatcher in my yard. Here are a few shots today including the Catbird again. The Mockingbird and Burrowing Owl were observed on Monday.

Saturday November 2, 2013-Lot's of Yellow-rumps and a Nice Western Grebe

First Day of the Season October 30, 2013

The weather remains clear, low 70's and gorgeous. Hot off the press. A Gray Catbird was sighted in Borrego Springs an hour ago. Here is a photo of the bird.

We had a nice walk around The Springs RV Park. The highlights included 3 species of herons, including Green, Great White and Black-crowned Night Heron. The young night heron from last year is now a bit darker (it was almost all white last year.
